The most profound statement I've heard lately is this: "Small is worthy." We don't all have to be forever bigger, wider, more. Do your thing. Do it well. Keep doing it.
The Jerry Maguire parallel works really well here. "Fewer clients, more attention" is both a business model and a philosophy, and it's the kind of trade that most people in scaled-up roles quietly wish they could make.
I had precisely the same feeling when I left my beloved little record store. The store was so successful that it acquired an existence and a flavor that could be continued by anyone. I became mostly insignificant, the work (the fun part) was finished.
